Sonatina (1970) - Jill Marchione, oboe; Kimberly Buchar Kelley, bassoon - A slow introduction gives way to a spritely allegro in the first movement with lots of syncopation. An allegretto in mainly 5/8 with a lot of imitation creates contrast in the second movement. The allegro final movement is rhythmic and playful with a short recapitulation of the first movement's slow introduction.
Honorable Mention in the 2007 Co-op Press Recording Competitionwas awarded to Jill Marchione and Kimberly Buchar Kelley. Ms. Marchione performs regularly with the Harrisburg Symphony and Opera, Theatre Harrisburg, and the Allegro Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster. Ms. Kelley has performed in various orchestras including the Illinois Symphony, New World Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, Sinfonia da Camera, BACH Ensemble, Lancaster Symphony, and the York Symphony. Four Poems (2007) - Conundrum: Mary Elizabeth Southworth, soprano; Danielle Hundley, flute; Marianne Breneman, clarinet; Philip Amalong, piano - A dramatic setting of four Romantic poems by Walt Whitman, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Robert Frost, and Edgar Allan Poe. While the music is tonal, the tonality is constantly shifting. The music reflects the meaning of the text by setting the mood and through the use of word painting. There is some brief narration that can be performed by the soprano or by the soprano with optional audience participation.
