New
England Time Capsules (2000) - This composition won first prize
in the New England String Ensemble Composition Contest. There are
five movements based upon New England history. The first movement
is "1560 - Amerindian Harvest Dance" and is a reworking
of the composers "Celebration Dance". The second
movement "1620-The Pilgrims" uses "Praise God From
Whom All Blessings Flow" for a set of variations. The third
movement "1770 - Birth of a Nation" uses adaptations of
"Chester" and "Yankee Doodle". The fourth
movement, "1850's - Irish and Scottish Immigration"
uses reels and jigs. The last movement "1990's -
Convergence" uses pieces of the earlier movements with
Brazilian, Asian, and West Indies folk songs. Duration 17:00
Movements 1,3 & 4 High School Level; Movements 2 & 5 College
Level; $10.00
